Genesis Armenia Launches New Educational Program for History Teachers in Artsakh

A training program for History teachers in Artsakh has been launched in Stepanakert, aiming to provide them with knowledge, experience, and skills in modern teaching methods, particularly when presenting the political, security and information sectors of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The training organized on the initiative of Genesis Armenia Think Tank/Foundation will last three days. About two dozen Armenian and World History teachers of Stepanakert secondary schools will participate in the training.

“We have already implemented many programs in Artsakh, the most crucial component of which is education. In order to retain the Armenian identity, we must hold on to our mother tongue and the Armenian history, therefore we start the teacher training program with History. There is no such force in the universe that can make us leave Artsakh alone, and new shoots will spring from this initiative,” said Founding Director of Genesis Armenia, Abraham Gasparyan.

Emphasizing the role and significance of history, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Genesis Armenia, Samvel Vardanyan, said that History is the subject that students are first and foremost educated through.

“By presenting the history of our homeland, the teachers lay the strongest foundations of patriotism among the students, instilling values and a will to achieve national goals. Presenting the enemy correctly is an extremely essential factor in this context,” said Samvel Vardanyan, emphasizing that Genesis Armenia will strive to make it a continuous and large-scale process.

The training program was developed by historian, Armenian History teacher, and member of Genesis Armenia, Suren Tazayan, who, through questions and answers with his colleagues from Artsakh, first tried to identify the issues related to the Armenian History lessons and teaching methods.

The teachers of Artsakh think that the number of the lessons is relatively small, while the subject and the content are extensive. Another problem, according to them, is the inaccuracies in the textbooks.

“One of the main reasons for losing the latest war is the current state of education and superficial knowledge regarding Artsakh. Only by knowing our own history and building the right educational system will we succeed,” Tazayan said.

Welcoming the next educational initiative of Genesis Armenia, Minister of Education and Science of Artsakh Anahit Hakobyan said that this format of cooperation was very important in terms of training qualified personnel in post-war Artsakh and making serious qualitative changes through them.

The minister thanked the think tank for keeping Artsakh in the center of attention and promoting its development through professional work.
